Hot Chocolate Bombs

My cousin, Clark Collins, giver of the most delicious food gifts… (think chocolate fudge and salted caramels- delightful confections that I want to hoard and not share with my family) gave me the most delicious and fun gift this year. Hot Chocolate Bombs. When you pour hot liquid over the bombs the chocolate melts, then marshmallows and hot cocoa powder appear. Stir, then get ready to enjoy a warm winter treat!

Hot Chocolate Bombs

Spherical silicone mold, 2 to 2 1/2-inches in diameter
6 ounces Wilton chocolate candy melts, for chocolate sphere
1/3 cup powdered hot chocolate mix (for recipe see my blog marydukecooks.com)
Miniature marshmallows
Garnish: 2 ounces Wilton dark chocolate candy melts (for drizzle) and additional mini marshmallows
See additional flavor variations below

Melt Wilton candy melts in microwave according to package directions, or on stove using a double boiler. Stir until smooth. Using the back of a spoon, coat inside of a spherical silicone mold with melted chocolate.

Place mold in freezer 5 minutes to harden chocolate. Remove from freezer and brush with a second coat of melted chocolate. Freeze 5 minutes. Add another layer if you have any thin spots. Freeze again. Gently pop chocolate shells out of molds.

To connect ball halves: Place a microwave-safe plate in microwave and heat for 90 seconds. Press each half of ball on plate to smooth and flatten the edge. Add mini marshmallows and hot chocolate mix to one half of the ball. If plate is not hot, heat again in microwave. Place empty half of ball on hot plate then quickly place on top of filled half; press gently to seal edges together. Place ball in a paper muffin liner. See videos on You Tube for a visual demonstration.

Optional garnish: Melt Dark chocolate candy melts and drizzle on top of ball. Stick additional marshmallows to drizzle.

To serve, place ball in a coffee cup. Pour very hot milk or water over the top. Ball will melt and release hot chocolate! Stir and enjoy. Makes 1 ball.
