I love fresh sweet dark cherries. They are a great snack. Since I don’t own a cherry pitter, I’ve tried several different methods to remove the pits. Some methods inflicted pain. Once I used a knife and it slipped! That was a bad idea! This is the easiest method and doesn’t require any special equiptment.
Pit cherries using a chopstick and a glass or plastic soft drink or beer bottle.
Remove stem from cherry. Hold cherry at the opening of the bottle with one hand. The location where the stem pulled off should be on top. Hold the chopstick vertically with your other hand. Pierce the center of the cherry with the chopstick.
Keep pressing until the chopstick passes all the way through the cherry. The pit will drop into the bottle. Repeat until you have pitted as many cherries as you need.
